I last had brownies from scratch a few months ago, the last time I made brownies. I detest anything from a box. Thank you for reminding me to buy some good chocolate and make brownies. I think i'll make yours and eat them right out of the oven with some homemade vanilla ice cream.

christa, thanks for reading! i agree, way better to do it yourself, even if it means you eat the whole bowl. well, maybe for special celebrations only. the only problem is, these brownies are pretty much always a reason to celebrate. hmm....

Great post. I made homemade brownies last night so the last time I had one was a few hours ago. I tend to eat mostly desserts that I've made myself. Since I love baking and I'm a picky eater, this means I eat more than I do when someone passes around a bag of processed snacks, but at least I feel better about the ingredients. Your brownies look yummy. I'm going to add some spice to mine next time. Thanks for sharing.

@alexis - we need some more yogurt cake in our future.

@jonny - i know, right? it's just too too easy to eat total crap. especially cause a lot of the time, it's really delicious...

@maxhull - i considered taking the entire batch back to london. lucky for you (and my waistline) they probably wouldn't have made it through customs.

@lexeat - seriously...orgasmic. try them. it's ridiculous.

The last time I ate a brownie made from scratch was roughly three weeks ago when I was lucky enough to sample these very brownies. I've eaten a veritable truckload of brownies in my day, but these make their way effortlessly to the top of the pile.

Excellent post, made me laugh, think deeply and also drool over those brownies. Yes, food is geared towards convenience and low cost; I often wonder what the point is in making something if it is cheaper to buy it completed (a la the roast chicken example), but you raise valid points about cost & convenience v health and enjoyment (& the satisfaction of having created dinner).

I like the idea of not being able to eat junk food unless I make it myself - I would end up much healthier :)
